News and Announcements

Goal-setting meetings:  The district has extended the deadline for goals to be entered into Bloomboard to October 31st.  We are expecting  the Office of Teaching and Learning to send out some clarification regarding goals, specifically IAGDs around AP and CAPT.  We'll share any information we receive with you.  We as a team are going to keep our meetings as scheduled so that we'll have time to meet with all of our teachers and make any necessary revisions prior to the due date.  We're going to ask that all Bloomboard goals be entered into the system by October 21 so that we'll have time to review your work and suggest revisions with time for us to approve them by October 31st.

Tardy slips:  Please be sure to check your mailboxes prior to homeroom.  We're coming across a number of students who have told us that they are not receiving any tardy slips. In order to keep our system consistent, we need your help in distributing those notices.

October 14th Senior Future Planning:  As of right now, we only have about 50% of the teachers who will have seniors on PSAT day signed up to offer a session or partner up for a session. Please be sure to complete the form that Ms. Tager sent out last week so that we can begin to offer sessions for students and set up a schedule.  One option might be to bring in someone in a career that might interest students or you may want to volunteer to provide a quiet study space for students to catch up on work.

Late Bus:    The late bus will begin picking up students this week.  The late bus arrives at 3:15pm every Thursday.  Students must sign up for the bus prior to the start of first block on Thursdays.

BE Life Lectures:  As you know an 84 minute study hall is an awfully long time for some of our students.  We were thinking that we might be able to insert some inspiration into study halls by offering students the opportunity to watch inspiring videos or lectures (ala TED) in the auditorium.  We'll build the schedule and announce it to students.  What we need from you:  1) Do you know of any inspirational videos or TED talks you think our students would be interested in?  2) Do you know a former Lancer who might be interested in presenting his or her life lessons?  3) Would you be willig to volunteer to supervise a session or two?  Send Mike, Debbie, or Carly an email if interested.

File Access from Home!  Finally, access is here.  Check out Janet's email re: tech updates from this past week for information about how to access your BEHS files.
Best
Licensing vs. Copyright:  And for this, I'll turn questions to Janet Kenney, who clarified the restrictions on Netflix streaming also in the tech update email.

Looking for a few great students:   We're interested in finding students who can do some work for us for community service credit. We'll put them in announcements this week and it would help if you could encourage some students to apply.  Here are our "jobs":
  • Digitizing the program of studies with videos of classes, students talking about classes, and/or photos of student work
  • Enhancing our Alumni webpage and reaching out to create an Alumni database for us
  • Creating an Attendance matters campaign (flyers to post around local businesses with our school hours and phone numbers)
  • Creating a "movie" of our school song played by the band with the words to our school song

Reminders

Student of the Month:  Enter your nominations for students of the month here.  We’ll review all nominations by September 30th for announcement on October 1st or 2nd.
Mini-grants!  The Mini-grant application was emailed last week.  I strongly encourage you to think about what your classrooms might need to further the goals you have for your students.  We’ve been able to purchase elmos, kindles, and more through these grants.  They are due October 30th.

Staff Updates
