Our local mini-grant applications are due on October 31st. Bristol Public Schools through the Bristol Business Education Foundation will fund up to $2000 per grant approved. Some of you have mentioned a need for students to develop study skills, especially our ninth grade teams, could this be a way to purchase materials and incentives to encourage that developments? Yes! Some of you have asked about purchasing incentive for students who have maintained their positive behavior for a period of time. Could this be a way to purchase those? Yes! Some of you have mentioned a need for differentiated texts to meet students' reading interests or books of non-fiction essays to better meet the common core. Could this be a way to purchase those? Yes! Go for it! The application is simple. Please see me if you are interested.
There is also another mini-grant available to teachers. $500 for individual teachers/classrooms and up to $2000 for school-wide projects. The grant has been created to encourage teachers' development and implementation of CCSS activities in the classroom. Please email me for the application.

Resources for thinking about Parent Conferences
Before parent conferences this week, you may want to check out these links for some ways of "rethinking" parent conferences and improving our communication with parents. In the first link, you'll find tip sheets from the Harvard Family Research Project that I thought could be pretty useful--they even have some tip sheets for parents on how to make the most out of conferences. Another link from that first bank of resources leads teachers to videos on the teaching channel that teachers new to the profession might find useful.

I will be asking students to participate in Celebrate My Drive during homeroom each day. Stop by the cafeteria on Friday. Teens in the Driver’s Seat, advised by Kim Hazelton, will be receiving an award check for their efforts in promoting teen safe driving last year. Kudos to that group!
Parent Conferences next week: This is a great time to pause and have your students reflect on the year so far. If they were writing the script for the conference, what would it entail? Could they articulate their strengths, their areas for improvement? Could they look through their notebooks and backpack and find their own work that demonstrates these strengths and areas to improve?
Workroom/Tutoring Center: We’re waiting on our chromebooks . . .
