News, Notes, and Reminders

Recognize Roberta Day!    Mrs. Wathen is being recognized at a luncheon at a city-wide luncheon on Tuesday for her role in mentoring our teens and the support she provides to our students on a daily basis through snacks, the BE closet, and (quite literally), as the person in the students' corner!

Senior Field Day.  Thank you for your feedback about the senior field day on May 25.   The emails I received supported the day.  Senior teachers are asked to go with their classes out onto the field, if they so choose,   Some teachers sent clarifying questions.  First, a teacher had asked what to do if you had a test scheduled that day; you can require that the seniors take the test and if you choose, join the fun after they've finished.  One more has asked if activity restriction can apply--it can.  Roberta has a master list of seniors with activity restriction.  Students cannot be left alone, so if you do have students who aren't going to be eligible, please let us know.

Don't forget.  Don't forget to complete the end of year forms on-line.

News, Notes, Reminders

Peardeckreposted due to lack of response  As many of you know, we were able to use PearDeck this year because of a grant.  Using it next year will require we make an investment as a school.  I'd like your feedback before making that investment.  Please provide your feedback here. Even if you have not used PearDeck, please complete this quick 5 question survey.

BE Networkreposted due to lack of response Many of you enjoyed seeing each others' Bright Spots for the first half of the school year.  Sharing photos of our bright spots is challenging in the format of posting to a webpage.  For that reason, we're exploring various options of having a BE teaching bright spot network for next year, where all of you can contribute to bright spots of what is happening in your classrooms, keeping in mind restrictions on student photos.  We're wondering if a school Instagram account might work for this purpose.  For all of you who are more adept with social networking out there, please send me your input on we might be able to accomplish this goal.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.  We've received some information from the American Cancer Society regarding a school challenge through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events in CT.  If you're interested in leading a group to participate, please let me know and I'll share with you the information I've received.  The event in Hartford will take place on October 16, 2016.  It would be awesome to have our own school team there!

Adopt a Child Back to School.  Please make sure our counselors know the names of students who might benefit from the United Way "Adopt a Child Back to School" program.  The deadline for submission is June 3rd.

State Student Advisory Council in Education. We're able to nominate a student to be considered to serve as a member of the state student advisory council.  The council gives students a voice in education planning and enables the State Board of Education, the Commissioner of Education, State Dept of Education personnel to become familiar with our students' perspectives.  There will be 20 openings this year.  We can nominate students from any grade level but they must be able to provide their own transportation to Hartford.  Students who are on the council miss seven days of school for their participation on this council.  Please email me if you know of someone who'd like to participate.
