News, Notes, and Reminders

Administrative responsibilities:  As you all know, Debbie's last day was Friday.  George Michna will now be working with students grades 9-11, A-K and will be working on AP and testing.

Our last day is almost here!   We have less than two full weeks of classes ahead of us. Please help us keep students positive and successful as we head into the end of the year by ensuring that the focus on learning and your classroom structures remain strong.  Please be a presence in our hallways during passing time.

Know where your students are:  We receive an annual reminder from our superintendent this time of year reminding us that it is critical that we know where our students are throughout the day.  Students must continue to have a pass or their planner when exiting the classroom.  You should also be having students sign out on a sheet in your classroom.

Classroom visitors:  Reiterating what Mr. Higgins sent via email last week--Visitors, such as former students, will not be permitted to classrooms or guidance offices unless the front office is notified that you are expecting a visitor during the school day.  We'd prefer that all guests visit after school hours.

BTEC Exams:  If you have students who head to BTEC after your class, please let them know that we've arranged their transportation so that it will arrive for them after their exams on 6/15 and 6/16.  The bus will be ready for them at 9:35am to bring them to BTEC.

Don't forget.  Don't forget to complete the end of year forms on-line.

Summer address:  https://goo.gl/forms/2VAhKgJlFpqXOWsR2

PD for next year:  I believe the best PD we've offered has been informed, if not, led, by our teachers.  We do a TON of planning in the summer, and we'd love to have you join us so that we can have the best year yet next year.   I want to be sure that we include you if you're interested, so please complete this form with your interests.

Ramadan.  Please be mindful of students fasting during Ramadan, especially when you may be having a celebration with food in the next two weeks.  During lunch, our students who are fasting for Ramadan may go to the library.  Ramadan ends on the evening of June 24th.

Please be sure to let me know if you are having an end of year celebration with food.

Busy week! Don't forget students will be taking the CAPT pilot in their junior level science classes on Monday and Tuesday.  Many teachers are going to require substitute coverage on May 25 due to the field trip to the Memorial Boulevard.   Please do all that you can to avoid having to be out on that day.

An informational session will be held on May 25th in the evening at the Board of Education Auditorium for parents of special education students discussing the community-based supports available to students after high school.

 News, Notes, Reminders

Final exams:  Exams will begin June 15.  Students who know they will be absent for exams can make arrangements with you to take exams during the exam window.  However, if the exam cannot be taken within the exam window, arrangements must be made for the student to take the exam upon their return.  Please be sure that you leave an exam with our administrative office clearly labeled with the student's name.  You'll also need to communicate with the student's guidance counselor regarding the exam missed. If there are unique situations, please communicate with the student's administrator.

For students who are looking to take exams at an alternative time within the same four day window: it would be best to discourage this practice because it requires more communication regarding the whereabouts of students on each of these days.  You'll need to have written parent permission for students under the age of 18.  In the event of an emergency, you'll need to let an administrator know that you have additional students with you.

Follow up on blocking websites:  I've contacted Rob Puzio about blocking certain sites from our wi-fi, such as Instagram and Snapchat.  It looks like we may be able to do so from all Chromebooks/laptops.  We're exploring an option for phones as well. (5/20--response to follow up not received yet).
