News and Announcements:
Attendance: Please be sure to review attendance daily. We need to be notified if a student has cut your class. You can use the daily sheets sent by Mrs. Miller to check OR you can verify attendance using PowerTeacher and reviewing the student for the day.Course Videos: Last week I sent an announcement about videoing your courses to aide students in course selection. Beyond using video, teachers can use pictures, student work, or a Power Point to highlight their courses. Mr. Savvides can still create a video using the other alternatives. With his courses next year, there will be plenty of opportunities to have students get involved in producing the videos. Mr. Savvides will have both video and communication technology students who could contribute.
Teacher of the Year: It is about that time again for the district to select a Teacher of the Year. As part of the selection committee, I found out last year that about 25% of the teachers nominated actually complete the application! If you have been nominated, please take the time to complete the application--it is a great honor to be named Bristol Teacher of the Year.
Email reminders:
We know that communication is key. To ensure that our communication is as effective as possible, when emailing staff, students, or families, please keep these in mind:
- Respond in a reasonable amount of time. Parents should not have to wait longer than 36 hours for a response. If you do not have the information the parent requests at your fingertips, please email to let them know you need to get more information and the approximate time you will get back to them.
- Please be sure to use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Avoid abbreviations and typing in all CAPITALS.
- Use very specific subjects. Include student initial only. Think about creating a subject line that will help you search for that email at a later date.
- Use the CC: field for any time you’d like the recipient to have the information. If you are on the CC: you are not expected to respond to the email. Specifically, if you CC an administrator or counselor on an email, you will not receive a response. If you’d like a response, please address the email to the appropriate people.
- Emails are great to share quick information. However, If one email string goes beyond three messages, it is time to have a conversation either by phone or in person.
- It might be helpful when trying to collaborate on ideas that rather than email, a document or form be created in Google. That way, all of the ideas are in one place rather than in a string of multiple messages.
