Staff Bulletin for the Week of October 11

This Wednesday is an Advisory Wednesday.

Professional Time

This Wednesday, instructional improvement teams will be meeting from 1:45-3:25pm.  Please do not forget to express your interest for professional development on November 8th by completing this survey here.  Once we have a feel for people's interests, we'll be able to build a more formal schedule.  At this moment, most respondents are looking for more time to work on their instructional units.  We'll be asking course-level teams to submit their goal for the day and progress at the end of the meeting.

Please consider signing up for a teacher tour.  Sign up here

Food for Thought

From an AMLE Magazine article, the following FREE digital tools were shared to check for understanding and maximize student involvement:
Recap:  https://app.letsrecap.com --a video-based assessment tool that allows teachers to pose a question, have students respond with a short video, and get feedback
Active Prompt  http://activeprompt.org  --allows teachers to upload any image and ask students a question about it; students move a dot on their device to indicate their answer
Flubaroo  www.flubaroo.com  a plug-in for Google Sheets that allows teachers to quickly score student quizzes
Zaption:  http://zaption.com  allows teachers to take already-made videos (like a You Tube clip), publish interactive lessons, and track student understanding.
Nearpod and PearDeck (we already know these!)
Quizlet Live:  http://quizlet.live allows students to practice teamwork and communication skills while the teacher checks for understanding

News, Notes, and Reminders

Parent Conferences.  Students will be coming around to schedule conferences with teachers, if they have not already done so, on October 12th and 13th.

PSAT Schedule.  Please review the PSAT schedule as soon as possible and let Mrs. Linke know if there are any changes that need to be made.  Mrs. Linke will also be sending a survey about preferred activities for the remaining time in the Wednesday schedule.

Senior Seminar.  Seniors will be asked to identify interest in senior seminars this week through a survey.  Senior homerooms/advisory--please be sure to provide students with these surveys.

Thank you!  Our custodians and cafeteria ladies were very thankful for the nice notes they received from our students as part of this week's first five!  Thank you to the homerooms who participated!
